Training Your Parrot to Talk Can Be Easy if You Know How
Most owners of parrots bought them to hear them talk. Some of them may even resort in hiring professionals for a more positive outcome, but really, training parrots to talk can be easy. It will only require patience, dedication and lots of imagination.
In the Old Days
During the ancient times, it was written on AD 1250 by Rumi from Persia that in training the parrot how to talk, the bird should be first familiarized with the words even without understanding such.
In doing so, the owner must place a mirror in front of the parrot. The trainer should speak words behind the mirror so the bird will think as if its reflection in the mirror is the one speaking, thus it would do its best to imitate the sound.
Start Early
Between then and now, one concept hasn’t change to be able to train your parrots how to talk, it is to train the birds early on.
It is important for the owner to develop a bond with the bird, until the latter is comfortable enough with the companionship that training them would easily follow suit. Taming your pets will take time. The owner should make sure that they spend time talking to the birds, place them in comfortable cages, and gain the birds’ trust until they respond to their every prompt.
Scheduled Lessons
Lessons in pronunciation should be scheduled each day, ranging from 10 to 15 minutes. During the duration, you may hold the bird in your hands, let it sit or rest in it until it is comfortable. You can try to start with simple phrases like Good Morning or Good Day. Repeat the phrases over and over again while doing the lessons.
Don’t forget to give praise to the bird or provide them with treats with each successful attempt it shows with the training that you are giving them. Start with simple words and short phrases because complicated ones would only confuse the birds.
Other Aids
As a trainer, you can also use other aids such as cassettes or CD’s, anything that produces sounds or music, in teaching the birds how to produce sounds. But this type of resource shouldn’t be overused for a more successful outcome.
Training the parrots to talk can be fun and enjoyable task, especially when you are seeing positive results. Be cautious, though, not to teach them bad words because doing so will affect the owner in the long run.
