How To Tame Your Parrot

A parrot is a wild animal. Since it will take some time to tame the bird, you should know the appropriate steps to make them feel that you are their friend.

Once you bring the parrot home, make sure that it stays inside the cage for at least 24 hours and kept around people who love birds. If you see that the bird is skittish, give it some more time.

When you think the parrot is ready to come out, cover all the mirrors and windows then open the cage. Soon, the bird will come out and if it doesn’t, entice it with some food or a branch. Make sure to keep your hair out of the way and wear clothing that will not easily be snagged.

You should never speak loudly toward the parrot. Also, you must never look directly at him since this will make them perceive you to be a predator.

If your parrot does not want to take food from your hands, then use clippings and put them in the cage. You should praise them whenever they eat so eventually, you can feed them using your own hand.

The parrot will have to fly once in a while to exercise its wings. If the bird is still frightened, you can use a low bird stand and two sticks of varying lengths to carry the bird around. Two sticks are needed so the parrot can go from one stick to the other. This must be done slowly but deliberately as sudden movements will frighten the parrot.

The first few weeks of taming a parrot are going to be challenging. Once you have made some improvements, you can now teach it certain commands like “step up”. This will teach the bird that you are the master and if this is said, the parrot is aware that it must go to you especially when there is imminent danger so both of you can get out of harms way.

Another command they should learn is “no”. Sometimes, the parrot may do something that you do not appreciate and by teaching this to the bird, they won’t do it again.

Taming the bird will take time. Once you have surpassed that, you can teach it certain words or maybe even to sing and this can only happen once you have established trust with your feathered friend.
