If you’re planning to get a parrot for a pet, the following are just some of the things that you need to know before you purchase a parrot of any kind.

1. A healthy and happy environment. This is the most basic consideration in having a parrot as a pet. Before buying one, you must make sure that that parrot will have a decent and loving home so it will grow happy and healthy. Make sure that the parrot has enough breathing space before you put it in a cage. Also make sure that it has access to some fresh air and can see things so it doesn’t get bored and start plucking its feathers.

2. A good and healthy diet. This is very important for parrots because it will give them the energy to mimic sounds and play all throughout the day. Make sure that you provide the parrot with proper seed mixtures, grains, and fruits as well as cooked or raw veggies so you can meet its nutritional needs. To provide the parrot the best diet there is, try to change the diet menu once in a while to keep the bird interested in eating.

3. A cage that is fit for its size. Experts say that the most ideal size of a parrots cage is the large one. But, this isn’t really necessary especially if you have a small or medium-sized parrot pet. What is really important is to make the parrot feel that it is safe in its cage no matter what. For as long as the parrot can explore, sleep, and eat in the cage, then it is enough.

4. A wide and good selection of toys. One thing that you should know about parrots is that they can be extremely playful. When they cannot play, it depresses them and leads them to plucking their feathers. To keep the parrot happy when it is playing, make sure that you give it a good range of toys to choose from. Make sure that these toys are safe and non-destructive both for you and the bird.

5. A dependable set of training tools. A T-stand is actually on one of those training tools that the parrot should use only when you are around. This is because training the parrot will serve as your bonding activity. You shouldn’t place it inside the cage because you’ll regret in once you miss any trick that the parrot does.
