Lizards are cold-blooded reptiles belonging to the Squamata order. They have four legs, visible ear opening and maneuverable eyelids. Their size can vary from few centimeters to as long as three meters. They are also very-good inexpensive pets. But if the owner wants to get the right type of equipments, the whole affair can become quite expensive. The cost can be cut down a bit by not relying on the pet store completely and doing some self-research.

Chameleons belong to the lizard family. Chameleon has been derived from the Greek words chamai and leon meaning earth lion. The structure and size of chameleons varies a lot. They can be from one inch to thirty-one inch long. Chameleons are kept as exotic pets because of their characteristic color changing capability. They change colors so as to camouflage, communicate with each other and to regulate temperature. They also have a very long tongue to catch prey.

For some reason the name Ball Python strikes fear into the hearts of many people, often times people associate the name python with a man eating giant snake that is silent and deadly. This could not be further from the truth, as pythons and Ball pythons in generally are very meek and passive snakes. While it is true that there are some species of python in the wild that can reach lengths of 25 feet, that being the reticulated python there are species such as the Ball python that grows to no more than 6 feet in the wild. A ball python will more than likely not grow to its 6-foot potential in captivity and will be more apt to shy away rather than bite someone. It is said that your common house cat would be more likely to bite you than a pet ball python. For this reason, more and more people are turning to this lovely snake as a household pet, and are enjoying this animal for its unique lifestyle and traits.

Iguanas are probable the number one fad pet on the market today as far as lizards is concerned. Many pet stores are now carrying iguanas at low prices and telling the world what wonderful and easy pets they are. Well, this is not the case. Iguanas do not always behave well and can be very difficult to keep. You iguana will require a very specific diet that must be adhered to at all time as well as very strict housing requirements. Any old cage just will not do, no matter what the pet store sales person tell you. They just want to sell you something. Iguanas can grow extremely large if cared for right. Many die due to lack of proper care. If you are thinking about an iguana as a pet you will really need to make sure you know this reptile well and what its needs are prior to purchasing.
