Stop parrots from too much screaming

Veterinarians say that a parrot’s behavior cannot be simply changed because it’s what makes them unique from other birds or pets.

If you have a parrot, one of the things that you should brace yourself with is the varying behavioral pattern of parrots. Experts say that one of the hardest things that parrot owners have to go through is how to tolerate the parrots screaming and how to train the pet not to do it.

One thing parrot owners should consider very carefully before getting mad and punishing the parrot for screaming is that this act of screaming is quite natural for the bird. Screaming for parrots is a way of communicating to their owners about their status.

Experts say that is normal and healthy for parrots to scream once in while but if they scream too loud and too much, the owners must do something to stop it.

The following are just some of the steps owners could do to stop parrots from too much screaming:

1. Owners must realize that screaming is natural to parrots and it cannot be totally eliminated. Since parrots are known as “talking birds” it is only normal for them scream and practice their vocal cords. To stop them from too much screaming, owners should train parrots to make noise or scream at a specific hour of the day. The parrots should also be trained to stop once the owner says so. Formulating a special signal or a secret communication sign so the parrot will stop screaming can do this.

2. Don’t over react once the parrot screams. When you over react or pay too much attention when the parrot screams, it will only make it think that you are paying attention. To be able to stop it from screaming, don’t make it feel that screaming gets your attention. What you can do is to ignore the parrot’s screaming and it will make the bird realize that you don’t like its screaming.

3. Train your bird to lower its voice and teach it how to whisper. Although it is natural for parrots to scream, it doesn’t mean that owners should tolerate it. One of the best ways to stop parrots from excessive screaming is to train it to control its voice. It should know when to scream loud and low. If your bird is cooperative, you can even teach it to whisper and respond to you the same way when you whisper.
