Setting up your Saltwater Aquarium
Are you a fan of wild and exotic animals? Then try to invest in a more convenient way of collecting them – put up a saltwater aquarium. Before troubling yourself to the different kinds of fish to collect, you must first know how to set up your tank. Here are the steps.
1. Check your tank for any kind of leak. Leaks can become a big problem when you have put everything in your tank just to find out that you have to remove everything and fix the rift. You have to inspect your tank especially before purchasing it.
2. Clean your aquarium with a cleaning solution made of one teaspoon of pure bleach meant for every five gallons of water. Scrub the outer and inner surface of the tank including everything that will come in contact with it namely rocks, plastic plants and reefs, decorations, etc. Rinse thoroughly numerous times with clean or tap water.
3. Install the tanks filtration system. To do this, you have to follow the instructions of the manufacturer since every model varies in the installation process. Follow the instructions carefully based on the kit.
4. Before you put the substrate inside the tank, wash it thoroughly. After which, you can now put the plants inside which will serve as an anchor for the substrate.
5. Fill the tank with a bucket-full of dechlorinated water. Add salt by using a device that is used to read the amount of salt that is dissolved inside the water which is known as a hyrometer. You should have a specific gravity role of at least 1.020 to 1.023 to make the water amiable for its inhabitants.
6. You can start filling your tank with saltwater and leave about an inch before it reaches the mouth of the tank.
7. Start the filtering system.
8. Add the thermometer and the heater. Majority of marine life appreciates a temperature of about 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It is not advisable that you go above or below the implied temperature although in some instances, these specifics can change due to other marine life requirement.
9. You have to let things run for about 72 hours in order to achieve the desired setting of the temperature and the right moving water. Start cycling the saltwater aquarium in order to maintain a steady and acceptable biological life. Be sure that the levels of chemical compounds are of the right amount.
