Parrots Also Need To Take A Bath

One of the things that we do to keep ourselves healthy is proper grooming. The same goes for parrots because without regular baths, they may soon build up oil and dust that can eventually lead to an illness.

But not all parrots are very excited about taking a bath. So, if you are having a hard time, you should try various techniques to make this happen at least once a week or even more. Be reminded that plain water should only be used because soaps and lotions may be harmful.

One technique of helping your parrot take a bath is by putting a bowl of water with food inside it to make them eat and clean themselves at the same time. If the bird decides to take bath in the bowl that is provided inside the cage, make sure to replace the water right away so they have clean water to drink.

You must never force a parrot to take a bath. If the food in the bowl technique doesn’t work, you can get a sprayer and spray them. You should not point it directly at them but fire it above them so it falls like rain.

Another technique is for both of you to take a bath together. While you are taking a shower, put the parrot either on a perch or on your arm.

Whichever technique you use, you can tell if the parrot is getting used to taking a bath when it spreads its wings and moves its tail.

Now that you know how to give your parrot a bath, here are a few important rules to remember.

First, you should only bathe your parrot during the warmest time of the day. This is because a wet bird gets chilled easily and if it isn’t able to dry completely by nightfall, it could fall seriously ill.

Second, you know that fresh and clean water must be used to bathe the parrot. You should also check if it is the right temperature. If it is too hot or too cold, it may burn or also cause them to get sick. Ideally, you should use lukewarm or the equivalent of the room temperature.

Third, never saturate your parrot’s feathers. Doing this could lead to a loss of body heat in the bird and make it impossible for them to fly.
