Common Parrot Dangers That Must Be Avoided

Keeping your parrot locked up in the cage is the best way to keep him say from harm. But you have to remember that being locked up the whole time doesn’t do anything good for the bird so if you do decide to let it out, be aware of the common dangers and take the necessary precautions.

Parrots are known to pick up and eat anything on the floor. If you let the bird out, make sure that there are no poisons lying around. This creature is also sensitive to fumes like ammonia, bleach, insecticides, perfumes, fresh paint and glue. Make sure that these are stored in a secure place so nothing happens to your feathered friend.

Another threat for parrots is water. Drinking it is not the problem but if it should accidentally land in the toilet bowl, sink or bathtub, it will have a hard time getting out and most likely drown. The parrot will not drown instantly when it hits the water but if you are not able to reach him in time, the creature will most likely die. So, make sure the bird is far away from all open water sources.

If you have ceiling or mobile fans, make sure they are turned off so the parrot will not get injured from the blades. These birds are very curious and will likely fly closer to have a look only to be sucked in.

Your parrot could also be in danger if you have other pets at home. This is because cats and dogs which are known to be aggressive and will likely bite or scratch the bird when it is out of the cage and even eat it especially if they do not get along with each other.

The best thing to do is to keep them apart or let them become friends. If things are not working out, one will probably have to go so no one will get injured or eaten.

You probably gave your parrot a toy to play with while inside the cage. Before you give it, make sure that the parts are not easily breakable because broken parts can be swallowed and kill your parrot.

Poison, intoxication, open water sources, fans, other animals and small toys are considered to be some common dangers when owning a parrot. If you are able to exercise the proper precautionary measures, there will be nothing to worry about which will enable you to enjoy years of fun with your parrot.
